A people-first approach to transformation

A people-first approach to transformation

Cara Bermingham, Head of Agile Delivery at The Co-op

The Co-op is a business of nearly 200 years old and undergoing a digital transformation from top to bottom. This is no easy feat and in this talk we find out how the Co-op is bridging the gap between the past and its ambitious future.

From discovering how to speak the same language between agile and waterfall and in-between, through setting up partnerships and communities of interest, Cara has discovered the challenges the Co-op is facing and how they start with people and not methodologies. In this talk, we’ll learn how this people-first approach to transformation is working in practice, that leaving preconceptions at the door, seeing colleagues as a human first and job role second is starting to get people excited about working together across the business. BONUS: This approach works for clients too!

About Cara

In past lives, Cara worked as a Technical PM, a Digital Producer and a Programme Manager but once she discovered her talents and skills working with self-organising teams, she moved to coaching and didn’t look back. Recently re-located to Manchester, Cara now leads the Agile Delivery community over at Co-op Digital, where she’s applying her experience to the digital transformation of the Co-op, supporting the teams there with delivery and helping to grow the Agile capabilities and communities across the Co-op group.

Before the recent relocation to Manchester, Cara was a Delivery Coach at ustwo in London. She’s been working for over a decade with digital products of all shapes and sizes, helping teams to form, perform and supporting them through the messy and confusing bits of delivery.
